Clone Debacle is a tile-based puzzle game that I developed Solo in University. It was a month-long project made with UE5. The project was to create a tile-based puzzle game with original mechanics. The goal of the gain is the get past your green clone to reach the end of the level.

Clone Debacle

Clone Debacle was a solo project that taught me commitment. The main issue I ran into was puzzle creation in collaboration with mechanics design. After brainstorming and creating fun original mechanics, a realization hit me, and I had to create puzzles with those mechanics from scratch.

At first, I created large full-level puzzles that did not feel like they belonged together at all. Every time I played one of my puzzles I could not imagine how someone would feel about it. Then playtests showed me how correct I was the puzzles were solveable but did not flow in any way, meaning they were completely unsatisfying to the player.

I decided to break these mechanics down into lots of little puzzles and test levels. They were oversimplified but I found that players enjoyed themselves much more in these smaller levels. So using those small levels as reference I created the three currently playable levels.
